Visit Dalarna and experience the most authentic part of Sweden! Dalarna is famous for its picturesque landscapes of red wooden houses, traditional craftsmen, customs and folklore celebrations. Here, folk traditions are still part of everyday life. The best-known tradition, ‘Midsummer’, is celebrated at the end of June, with traditional food, dancing and singing. Combine this authentic experience with visits to the capital, Stockholm, and Sweden's second largest city, Gothenburg.
Itinerary
Day 1: Stockholm
Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, is built on 14 islands, meaning that water is never far away. Well-preserved medieval buildings stand alongside modern architecture, and just outside the city, the archipelago of 24,000 islands is waiting for you to explore. We recommend visiting the Vasa Museum, the Skansen open-air museum, the Town Hall and the Old Town (Gamla Stan). We offer a wide variety of guided tours in Stockholm, please ask us for more details!

Day 2: Stockholm – Tällberg in Dalarna (approx. 280 km)
Departure for Tällberg and the Dalarna region. Highlights along the way include Sigtuna, a charming, bustling little town built by the Viking king Eric the Victorious. Then via Enköping, Avesta and Borlänge to Rättvik, on the shores of Lake Siljan in Dalarna. Lake Siljan and the surrounding area were created by a falling meteorite 360 million years ago. The region is very popular for its summer solstice celebrations, hand-carved wooden ‘Dala’ horses, red wooden houses, ‘Falukorv’ sausages, folk music groups and the surrounding mountains.

Day 3: Rättvik and the surroundings of Lake Siljan
Free day to explore the Dalarna region. Located just a few kilometres from Tällberg, Rättvik is the town in Sweden where the first tourist hotel was built in 1894. The region is well worth a visit! Start your journey with a stroll along Lake Siljan and over Långbryggan, the longest wooden lake bridge in the world. And why not go for a swim? We also recommend a visit to Mora, where you can visit the Zorn museum. Anders Zorn is famous for his nude paintings, portraits and watercolours. The museum displays his work as well as some pieces from his private collection. Another interesting place to visit is Zorngården, the former home of the couple Anders and Emma Zorn.

Day 4: Rättvik and the surroundings of Lake Siljan
Don't miss the trip to the Sollerön peninsula. The local history museum consists of 12 buildings, a series of exhibitions, drakkars and a trail that leads you to Viking graves. From Sollerön you can continue on to Gesunda, where you can climb to the top of the mountain and enjoy magnificent panoramic views over Lake Siljan. You can then head south along the shores of the lake to the charming little village of Tällberg, made up mainly of wooden houses and chalets. As well as 200 permanent residents, this village is home to many private holiday homes.

Day 5: Rättvik – Karlstad (approx. 235 km)
Before leaving the region, we recommend a stopover in Nusnäs, just 10 kilometres from Mora. Nusnäs is the traditional home of the famous wooden horses known as ‘Dala’, Sweden's national symbol. You can follow the manufacturing process, from the piece of wood to the final painting, by hand. You will then continue on to Karlstad, on the shores of Lake Vänern, Sweden's largest lake.

Day 6: Karlstad – Gothenburg (approx. 265 km)
Heading south-west to Gothenburg, the country's second-largest city, which has always been the natural gateway to the west. Gothenburg is characterised by its international flair, local creativity and laid-back, natural, cultural charm as well as beautiful countryside and great spots for shopping. It was founded in 1621 and has always been a major centre for trade, shipping and international connections. Today, Gothenburg is a city of industry and expertise, with two universities and numerous service companies.

In Gothenburg you'll find fashion boutiques, department stores, markets, etc. The Nordstan shopping centre, in the old Haga district, is one of the biggest in Europe. Here you'll find a wide range of antiques and the magnificent ‘Feskekôrka’ covered market selling freshly caught fish.
