Itinerary
Day 1: Bodø
We recommend Bodø as the place to pick up your rental car. The Northern capital of Norway, Bodø is a modern city with an important aviation history, so a visit to the National Aviation Museum is highly recommended. The city is surrounded by magnificent nature, including the Børvasstindene mountains to the south and the Landegode and Lofoten islands to the north.
Accommodation in Bodø.
Day 2: Bodø – Moskenes – Reine (approx. 105 km, ferry included)
Morning at leisure before taking the ferry from Bodø to Moskenes. The 3-hour ferry ride takes you across the Vestfjorden to the Lofoten Islands, which stretch like a wall of mountains into the sea. For centuries, fishing and cod drying have been the main source of income in Lofoten. The two best-known sites are the traditional fishermen's huts (rorbu) and the places where the fish were dried on the wooden quays. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, the climate here is milder than in other parts of the world at the same latitude. From Moskenes, head to Reine, your starting point for exploring the Lofoten Islands.
Accommodation in the south of Lofoten.
Days 3 & 4: Reine and Lofoten Islands
Free days to explore the Lofoten Islands. Tip: visit Stamsund, Lofoten's still-active fishing port, where the star product is cod, exported around the world. Local crafts, theatre and art galleries also play an important role. Another tip: visit the Lofotr Viking Museum, based on the reconstruction and archaeological study of the excavation of the Viking village in Borg, north of Leknes. You can also enjoy the landscapes of Utakleiv and the beaches of Ramberg. Alternatively, explore the streets of Kabelvåg or Eggum, which overlooks the ocean, or the beautiful little village of Nusfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Accommodation in the south of Lofoten.
Day 5: Reine – Andenes (approx. 305 km, ferry not included)
You continue your crossing of the islands by car. We recommend a stop in Svolvær, the incredible ‘capital’ of the Lofoten Islands. Svolvær has a unique atmosphere of harbour, small town and artistic centre. On your way back to the Vesterålen, you'll also pass through many charming villages. Stop in Stokmarknes to visit the museum of the famous Hurtigruten coastal express. You then continue across the island of Andøya to Andenes - your starting point for exploring the Vesterålen islands.
Accommodation in Andenes.
Day 6: Andenes & whale safari
Now it's time to enjoy the most unforgettable experience of this tour. Meet up at the Andenes Whale Museum. After a guided tour, you'll join the boat that will take you out on the open sea. During the trip, along with the splendid scenery, you'll have a chance to spot several species of local whales and seabirds.
Accommodation in Andenes.
Day 7: Andenes – Harstad (approx. 118 km, ferry not included)
You head towards Sortland and leave the Vesterålen Islands behind. To reach Harstad, you pass through valleys and charming villages on the shores of the fjords. We suggest you take the road via Kvæfjord, including a short ferry trip between Flesnes and Refsnes.
Accommodation in Harstad.
Day 8: Departure
Departure from the hotel to the airport (transfer not included), depending on your flight itinerary.
Note: To get from the airport to the city centre or vice versa, we recommend using low-CO2 emission transport such as airport shuttle buses or private transport in electric cars.

Local tip
Stockfish (Tørrfisk) is one of Lofoten’s most iconic and historic foods, a centuries-old tradition that has shaped the region’s culture and economy. It is air-dried Arctic cod, preserved naturally by the cold, salty winds of Lofoten during winter. You can try stockfish in several delicious ways in local restaurants.
